Self-evaluation Model

School Libraries Resource Materials

Where to find the materials you need

These pages are designed to help you find your way around the self-evaluation processes and support materials for primary, middle and secondary school libraries and learning resource centres, published in early June 2004 by The Department for Education and Skills in conjunction with the School Libraries Working Group. In particular, the files for downloading have been made available in manageable chunks so that you can access just those items you need for the task in hand. Depending on your school, follow these links:

Electronic versions of the complete publications are also available on the TeacherNet site as School Libraries Resource Materials.

The processes and materials were prepared by Sharon Markless and David Streatfield of Information Management Associates, building on work by Sarah McNichol at the University of Central England.

The IMA team has since completed the first national survey of UK school libraries for many years. This research was funded by the Wendy Drewett Bequest and involved collaboration with the School Libraries Group of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP). The results were published as:

School libraries in the UK: a worthwhile past, a difficult present and a transformed future? Report of the UK national survey (with Sue Shaper and Simon Rae-Scott) School Libraries Group of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) and Information Management Associates 2011.
